As Lou Holtz says on the tradition of Notre Dame, “To those who know Notre Dame, no explanation is necessary; to those who don’t, no explanation is suffice.” Those at the Rockne Gala know about tradition, and it a tradition that has brought Romano Beverage and Tom Jensen together.
Tradition is what moved the Romano family to get back into the spirits business, and it is what prompted Tom Jensen to pursue his dream of making quality pot still whiskey in Western Ireland. Today, those two traditions and old friends are reunited as Romano Beverage is proud to be the exclusive supplier in Illinois for two companies founded by Jensen: New Liberty Distillery/Millstone Spirits Group and Connacht Whiskey Company, the first Irish American craft distillery in Ireland.
After graduating from Notre Dame in 1982, Tom began his career working at a Chicago-based wine and spirits company called Romano Bros, a family business led by Buddy Romano and that had several connections of its own to Notre Dame. After earning his MBA from the University of Chicago, Tom worked his way up in the industry, becoming President and CEO of Remy Cointreau in 2005. When it was time for Tom to follow his dream to Ireland and create Connacht, he enlisted a number of fellow Notre Dame Alumni (including Danny) to pursue this dream of making whiskey in Ireland.
It is so exciting to see two Notre Dame Families with deep Chicago roots, strong traditions and a solid brotherhood working together. We are honored and privileged to officially name their Irish whisky “Brotherhood” as the official Irish Whiskey of the Notre Dame Club of Chicago.
Thank you, Danny Romano & Tricia Barry!
